Christmas 2014

Over the first half of Christmas break I will spend most of my time at home relaxing and doing Christmas activities. For Christmas Eve I plan on visiting my aunt's house once again. I will spend plenty of time with family and eat delicious food. We may even serve community service and help people in need. Then we'll share presents and sing. For Christmas Day I plan on staying home with my family and opening presents with my mom, dad, and little sister and spending the rest of the break enjoying my presents. I do not want very much for Christmas this year, maybe just a video game or two and some shoes and clothes. All of these things would make a great Christmas Break for me. Finally, I would like to wish everyone a merry Christmas!

Why do I want to go to College

By going to college I hope to give myself many opportunities to pursue a career that I enjoy. I am going to college strictly for myself and my family. I would like to be very successful so that I will be able to provide for my family. The main things that I am focused on while choosing a college is cost and quality of the program that I am interested in majoring in. I will probably seek input about college from my mother, counselor and my cousins that are freshmen in college this year. Finally, college would help me achieve my goals by educating me and make me much more credible businessman.

Teen Job

For my possible job, I felt it would be appropriate to work at Cracker Barrel as a host only during summer or maybe any other restaurant or retail store in my area. I chose this because I am too busy during school to maintain good grades participate in sports and have a job. I feel that it would be the perfect job for students like me because it is very close to home and it is not a very demanding job. It also offers an abundant amount of benefits, such as employee discounts, paid vacation college scholarship programs and more. These benefits can also be very useful for me. Therefore, I believe this would be the perfect summer job for any teen to take part in during the summer. I would take plenty of steps to prepare me for my job interview. I would most definitely make sure that I am well dressed prior to my interview, I would also be sure to make it to the interview on time and maybe even early, I may practice answering interview questions in a mirror or with a parent. I will be aware of my body language and be polite as possible to make sure that I get the job. Finding this job was not very difficult at all and is was much easier to find than I expected it to be. I simply discovered this job in my area on a site called "snagajob.com."

Homeless to Harvard

I think that "Homeless to Harvard" was a very inspirational film. My favorite part of the movie was near the end when Liz finally made it to Harvard and got an apartment and made a life for herself. I enjoyed this part because it makes me feel that I can achieve anything if I truly set my mind to it like Liz did. Lastly, I do believe that if I were in the same position as Liz I would have tried my best to create a life for myself so I wouldn't live my entire life homeless and alone.

College Budget

I was very surprised by my budget results because I thought that it would be more strained however it was not too bad and I ended up being able to pay all of my expenses making about $1,600 a month and having a small amount left over. I believe that I am not yet 100% prepared for this tremendous amount of responsibility, however I am sure that I will be in a couple of years. I did began to realize that once I go off to college I will have many responsibilities, and that it is important that I be as mature as possible with how I spend money and manage my time. Lastly, in order to prepare for these expenses I can begin working and saving up money after each paycheck.

Top Career Choice

My top career choice is video game design. I chose video game design as a career because, although it may be a lot of work, I  believe that it will be the most enjoyable career for me that pays a good amount of money. I believe so because I enjoy art, sports and video games, therefore I feel that I would be happy designing video games, and possibly even sports games.

Stress

My test score was 8 of 24, and it stated that I have my my life in fairly good control and that I should work on the habits that could be causing me unnecessary stress. The only thing that really stresses me out is excessive school work and homework. However, I try to deal with this stress by doing my work as soon as possible and getting it out of the way or clearing plenty of time to get it done if needed. I also feel that not getting enough sleep and waking up at 6:30 can greatly contribute to stress, but I can only do my best to get in bed earlier. Other than the school work and sleep, I find that nothing else really stresses me out because I make sure to get as much free time as i need.

Organizational Method

a. My current organizational method is to simply write reminders on a list in my phone as I go through the day. I feel that my organizational method works very well because it is simple and straight forward. However, occasionally I forget but I still find that this is the best method for me.

b. Procrastination can greatly hurt you because it can cause you to fall behind and become overwhelmed with work. This will only make you less motivated to try and keep up and it can make you very stressed out and depressed.

c. One way to fight procrastination is to constantly have a positive attitude towards getting work done and follow the saying "mind over matter". It also feels much better to be on top of all your work and have plenty of free time than to be constantly lagging behind and stressed out.

My First Post

I am a junior in high school, and in college transition this year I hope to learn plenty of information that will help me be successful in graduating college. I am not yet sure what college I would like to attend, however I would like to get some ideas in this class. I think that I would like to earn a degree in the arts field because I really enjoy drawing. I feel that this class will also help me decide what I would like to do with my life post-college. Lastly, I think that College Transition will prepare me for life on a college campus. These are the main benefits that I think college transition have to offer for me.
